Our sixth Trike, W & W - F 4**. A NSWGR Fairmont M19.
And again this was another trike owned by my Uncle but never had anything done to it. It sat in dust and spiders for about 9 years and seazed. I was on the look out for a Fathers day present for my dad and I know Fairmonts are his favorite of all trikes. It took a few hour to get it out of the museum it was stored in, lots of stuff in the way. I got it home put a bow on it and surprised my Father, he didn’t have a clue.
Deconstruction happened almost immediately and lots of good news came from it. It looks like someone had already did all the hard work in restoring this one. New hubs, wheel bearings were found. Pulling apart the motor was relatively easy, someone went to the trouble of a new crank, conrod, piston and bearings. The bad news was that who ever used it last left a considerable amount of water in the crankcase seazing the engine and bearings. Wasn’t that bad, a hit with the wooden handle of a hammer and the piston was free.
Dad works on it as time permits. As the chassis came up so well the only thing to do is the engine. It has been decided that the trike will keep it’s used look.
CURRENT STATUS: Under repair. |
